About Us
I am Vera Borukhov, a talented teacher with over 13 years of professional experience. In my classes, I teach students the value of education; with me, they become lifelong learners, readers, and critical thinkers.
Born in the former USSR, I moved to the United States as a teenager and grew up in Queens, NY, where I still live today. I graduated from Hillcrest High School and attended Queens College, CUNY, earning both my B.A. in English and M.Ed. in Literacy Education. I also did post-graduate work in Educational Leadership.
Afterwards, I went on to work in private schools, such as the Jewish Institute of Queens, and spent six years working with NYC Public Schools in the Department of Education. Now, I’m an adjunct instructor at both Lehman College, CUNY, and at St. John’s University, where I teach first-year writing. I love every minute of it.
Teaching is my passion and purpose in this world. It’s everything to me—and it’s what I do best.
My love for education stems from my upbringing: My father always admired people who were well-read and articulate. As a child, I yearned for his love and approval, especially since I was constantly competing with my three siblings.
Motivated by this, I dedicated my life to becoming well-read and well-spoken. And now I empower others to do the same.
I help students develop the skills they need for success in school by inspiring them to learn and teaching them the value of education. I design my classes with the kind of energy that captivates and transforms students into lifelong readers, persuasive writers, and critical thinkers.
